The Trump administration has indefinitely delayed a proposal to make changes to the Renewable Fuel Standard. Their plan called for allowing refiners to get RINS credits on exports of renewable fuel in exchange for allowing year-round use of E15. Iowa Renewable Fuels Association Executive Director Monte Shaw says had that been allowed to go forward it would have destroyed the RFS. He says it was the work of farm state Senators that helped stop it.
He says President Trump desired a win for both the renewable fuel and oil industries. However that proposal wouldn’t have been a win for ethanol and biodiesel.
Shaw says the renewable fuel industry while pleased with this decision still has work to do to see that E15 gets offered year-round and that the RFS is properly followed.
Shaw says had RINs been allowed on exports it would have wiped out the benefits for selling E15 year-round.
