Tuesday, the U.S. Senate approved a one trillion dollar infrastructure bill that included funding for an electric vehicle charger network but excluded funding for biofuels. Iowa Renewable Fuels Association’s Cassidy Walter says the Senate missed a carbon reduction opportunity with biofuels by not including them in the package.
She says biofuels are already reducing carbon emissions and are on track to be carbon negative in the next ten years. Walter says by not including biofuels in the legislation Senators are injuring farmers as well as the Midwest economy.
Walter says their next step is to work with House in making sure biofuels are part of any infrastructure bill that they approve.
Walter says it’s critical that Congress embrace multiple solutions to the nation’s environmental challenges instead of following a one size fits all approach as the Senate did with electric vehicles in its infrastructure bill.
