A pair of Iowa State lawmakers are expected to introduce legislation this week calling for establishment of a statewide moratorium on factory farms. Joining state environmental groups on Tuesday to talk about that are Senator Pam Jochum and Representative Art Staed. Iowa Pork Producers Association Public Policy Director Drew Mogler says if that’s introduced and then approved would be devastating for agriculture in Iowa.

He says the livestock industry creates a lot of economic benefit for the state.

Mogler says it’s important to note the positive environmental footprint the pork industry has.

Supporting the moratorium push are Food and Water Watch, the Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement, Iowa Alliance for Responsible Agriculture and the Iowa Farmers Union.
