The Iowa Pork Producers Association is supporting the State Attorney General’s appeal of a District Court Decision which threw out Iowa’s Ag Protection Fraud Law also known as the Ag Gag Law. IPPA Public Policy Director Drew Mogler thinks the state of Iowa has a good argument.
He says the Producers Fraud Law is needed to protect the state’s livestock producers from activists attacks including the use of undercover videos on farms and ranches.
Mogler says if the Appeals Court rules in favor of the state of Iowa then the Ag Protection Fraud law will be reinstated.
He says those who challenged the Iowa law originally claimed it was a violation of free speech rights, but that wasn’t the intention of that law, it was to protect ag operations.
