The Board of Regents approved a tuition increase of 250 dollars for in-state students at the University of Iowa, Iowa State University and the University of Northern Iowa. That increase is 50 dollars less than what had been proposed.  The tuition increase was proposed after the regents request 20 million more dollars from the state and were only given about six million.

Regent Patricia Cownie of Des Moines talked about the potential impact of the increase on students and the timing.

Regent Larry McKibben of Marshalltown also expressed concern.

The vote on the tuition increase came after the board approved an eight-thousand-dollar performance incentive for Regents executive director Bob Donley.  Donley’s salary has reached the maximum 154-thousand-300 dollars allowed by law, but the Board of Regents has continued to pay him performance incentives above that salary.
