Iowa State Representative Introduces Legislation on Factory Farms

Iowa State Representative Introduces Legislation on Factory Farms

Over the past few years there have been growing concerns regarding the effects of factory farms in the Midwest. On Monday Iowa Representative Art Staed of Cedar Rapids introduced legislation that would slow the growth of large agricultural corporations. The Farm Moratorium Legislation would establish an immediate moratorium on the expansion of factory farms in the state. This year marks the fifth that Iowa legislators and advocates have collaborated to introduce legislation slowing the growth of factory farms in Iowa.  Representative Staed says the environmental impact of these corporations is affecting a large population of Iowans.

He also says that factory farms are taking a heavy toll on independent farmers in Iowa.

Staed says that local governments across the state have been working on resolving this issue for some time now and says that is why its time for the state legislature to step in.
