The Iowa State Fair has concluded, but fair officials are already planning for improvements for future fairs. In recent years, the Iowa State Fair has renovated and made improvements to the 4-H Exhibition Building, the Elwell Food Building, the Elwell Family Action Grandstand, and the Main Grandstand. Now, fair officials, along with the Blue Ribbon Foundation and the Iowa legislature are committing $25 million dollars to the renovation of the fair’s livestock facilities. Gary Slater is the manager of the Iowa State Fair and says each of the state’s fair livestock barns are more than a century old, and each of them need attention. Slater talks about the improvements needed for the swine barn. He says the cattle barn needs additional electric power. Slater says fair officials will visit with architects before deciding which building will be first to be upgraded.
