Iowa is seeing some of the slowest soybean harvest progress in the country according to yesterday’s USDA crop progress report. However, farmers in northwest Iowa are quickly getting caught up. Soybean harvest was pegged at only 37-percent in Iowa by the agency verses the 71-percent average. Corn was a little better at 29-percent which is 9-percent behind the normal pace. Pioneer Strategic Account Manager Paul Snyder says the area he covers in northwest Iowa though is catching up.
He says if the weather holds together many farmers will be able to get done with the bean harvest this week.
Snyder says so far there have been very few quality issues with the soybeans and yields have been above average.
Corn yields are more variable depending on the moisture situation. Snyder says farmers in areas with excessive moisture have been happy with 200 plus yields, while areas with better drainage have run as high as 280 bushel per acre.
