Iowa state lawmakers begin their 2018 session in Des Moines today. One of the major issues they’re expected to discuss is tax reform. Iowa Soybean Association Director of Policy Carol Balvanz says they support tax reform and would like to see it paired with water quality.

She says while the cover crop initiative has helped farmers improve water quality in Iowa, they want state legislators to develop a detailed watershed initiative and fund it.

Balvanz says ISA will also back any funding requests Iowa State University has for ag research.

Balvanz says they recognize the need for agriculture to seek funding through partnerships, rather than constantly relying on the state for funding assistance.
