This week U.S. Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack and Iowa Governor Terry Branstad announced efforts to provide long term funding to work with agriculture to improve water quality in the Hawkeye state. Iowa Soybean Association CEO Kirk Leeds is excited about the effort and says part of it involves taking some of that state sales tax money and putting it into a water quality fund.
He says the total amount of water quality funding being provided by the feds and state is significant.
Leeds says the entire push to improve water quality comes from Agriculture groups working with the state and federal government.
Leeds says continuation of the nutrient reduction management strategy now in its third year has been an important component in addressing water quality concerns. He says this funding will help enhance that as well.
