Iowa ethanol production set a new record in 2015. Iowa Renewable Fuels Association Executive Director Monte Shaw says output at the state’s 43 plants was up slightly this year from the 3.9 billion gallons that was achieved in 2014.
He says there were several factors that led to the record setting levels in 2015 including more cellulosic ethanol production and improved efficiencies at Iowa’s ethanol plants.
Shaw says while they were disappointed the EPA did not raise the RFS volume levels to the statutory requirement this year, his group will ask the agency to increase those levels in 2017.
Shaw says if the petroleum monopoly can finally be cracked regarding fuel choice it will benefit consumers, farmers and the environment.
