Iowa Senator Wants DOJ To Continue Cattle Market Investigation

Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley has joined Senators Joni Ernst of Iowa and John Thune of South Dakota and some House members in a letter to the Attorney General asking for the Justice Department to continue its investigation into cattle markets and the discrepancy between what cattle producers and packers are getting.

He says the two previous investigations into meat packers control have been taking too long and even though there are no results yet from those, there must be a more thorough investigation conducted.

Grassley says the backlog at processing plants and the effects of the pandemic should spur DOJ to look further into the cattle market problems.

Four other Senators and six Representatives have joined Grassley in his letter to AG Merrick Garland.
