Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley says it will be a tough lift to get final Congressional approval for the Trans Pacific Partnership deal. He says while there are several positives in the trade agreement, he won’t decide how he’ll vote on it until he reads the entire text. Grassley says the TPP will be the toughest to get passed in the House.
Grassley serves on the finance committee and it’s chairman, Senator Orrin Hatch of Utah says he’s opposed to the TPP. Hatch has concerns with how pharmaceutical companies can maintain exclusivity to genetically engineered drugs. Grassley says that will make it tough for TPP to gain Finance Committee passage.
The other problem with getting TPP approved is that a vote isn’t likely to happen until spring of 2016 which not only is a Presidential election year but also right in the middle of the primary season.
