The lawsuit filed by the Des Moines Waterworks against Sac, Buena Vista and Calhoun counties has drawn the ire of a Northwest Iowa State Senator. Senator Randy Feenstra of Hull is calling for rural Iowans to boycott Des Moines in the wake of their federal lawsuit charging that farmers haven’t done enough to control nitrate levels in the Raccoon River.

Feenstra says Iowa’s farmers have done a great job in implementing environmental and conservation practices especially through the nutrient reduction management strategy brought forward by State Ag Secretary Bill Northey.

Feenstra says agriculture isn’t the only culprit for nutrient run off and targeting farmers and ranchers over that isn’t the wisest move to make.

Feenstra adds that the lawsuit will cost Iowa taxpayers an enormous amount of money with the only winners being the trial lawyers.
