Last week the Iowa Board of Regents voted unanimously to approve a Soybean Research Center at Iowa State University in Ames. Iowa Soybean Association President Brian Kemp says it brings together private industry, the soybean association, state agencies and growers with the University all with a singular focus of improving competitiveness of soybeans.
Kemp says the director of the Center will be Greg Tylka who will work with the Iowa Soybean Association to define research and business goals.
The cost to establish the center in its first year will be nearly $ 150,000, increasing to $ 228,000 in seven years. A mix of internal and external funds along with competitive grants will pay for the project.
