County election officials in Iowa had received nearly four-hundred-thousand “early” votes by this past Friday.
The 70-thousand vote edge Democrats had over Republicans four years ago in early voting helped propel President Obama to victory over Mitt Romney. Iowa G-O-P chairman Jeff Kaufmann says that lesson’s been learned. And, because Iowa is a battleground state again in this year’s election, the Republican National Committee has invested in new technology to identify and turn out voters.
Craig Robinson, founder of “The Iowa Republican” website, once served as a political director for the Iowa G-O-P. Robinson says his fellow Republicans don’t approach early voting with the same “intensity” as do Democrats.
By this past Friday, 40-thousand more Democrats than Republicans had voted early in Iowa.
