Today, Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley is meeting with producers to get their input on assistance needed to help battle highly pathogenic avian influenza. Iowa Poultry and Egg Association Executive Director Randy Olson also has been meeting with producers and other in the industry to find ways they can improve their response should the disease rear back up this fall.
Olson says he’s grateful for the help the poultry industry has received from their Congressional delegation in dealing with the bird flu outbreak.
Olson says they’ve gotten great help from the USDA but realize they’re not out of the woods yet as far as the disease goes.
Olson says they’re happy some of the turkey farms have been restocked and are looking forward to the time when egg farms are back to full production as well.
