The Iowa Pork Producers Association is welcoming the addition of a new pork processing facility to Iowa. On Thursday Seaboard Foods and Triumph Foods announced they will be constructing a new $260 million facility in Sioux City, Iowa. Iowa Pork’s Director of Communications Ron Birkenholz says this is good news for the pork industry.

Seaboard has not announced if they will be sourcing hogs from local producers yet or relying on their own supply. However, Birkenholz says in any event competition in the industry is supportive of prices.

The new plant will process about 3 million hogs annually and employ nearly 1100 people.
