The $2 trillion stimulus package approved by the Senate includes billions of dollars for U.S. agriculture. Contained in that legislation is $9.5 billion for livestock producers. Iowa Pork Producers Association President Mike Paustian says he’s pleased Congress realizes pork producers like many others need help in dealing with the effects of the COVID 19 pandemic.

He says the primary worry for pork producers is making sure producers themselves as well as their workers stay healthy to be able to continue caring for their animals.

Paustian says it’s critical consumers realize that animals aren’t effected by the coronavirus and the food chain remains safe.

Paustian says one of their main concerns going forward is making sure there are enough ag workers available and that steps are taken by Congress to ensure that labor shortage is corrected.
