In the spirit of March Madness, the Iowa Pork Producers Association held a contest during the month of March to determine which Iowa restaurant serves the best pulled pork sandwich. 16 restaurants across the state competed against each other with two restaurants in each of the eight districts. The champion, according to Kevin Haall communications director for the Iowa Pork Producers Association is a restaurant known as the “Flying Elbow” located at Marshalltown.
if the name of the restaurant rings any bells, it could be from last May when the Flying Elbow also won the Iowa Beef Industry Council’s “Best Burger” contest. Voting was done over social media. Hall tells what makes the “Flying Elbow’s pulled pork sandwich, as well as the restaurant, so special.
This marks the sixth year for the pulled pork sandwich contest. The contest came down to the Flying Elbow from Marshalltown and the Lucky Pig Pub and Grill at Ogden.
