Iowa Pork Producers will discuss disease control and monitoring, as well as water quality when they meet in Des Moines this week at Pork Congress.  President Dave Struthers says as part of their policy discussion they hope to come up with some protocols for dealing with difficult diseases like PEDV.

Struthers says the major state issue they’ll be working on is how to fund needed improvements for water quality in the state. He says Governor Branstad’s plan calls for using some state tax dollars dedicated to education to address the problem.

Struthers says his group also with the Iowa Corn Growers and Cattlemen’s Associations are studying the Governor’s proposal, while the Iowa Soybean Association has signed on with support.
