Iowa Pork Producers Association Reacts to Call for CAFO Ban

The Iowa Pork Producers Association is reacting to the call for a moratorium on all large scale livestock operations in the state by a newly formed alliance. President Al Wulfekuhle says the request to ban CAFOs doesn’t make sense.

He says the members of the Iowa Alliance for Responsible Agriculture don’t understand the nutrient value of manure for farmers or how it’s used and handled in an environmentally responsible way.

Wulfekuhle says the state’s pork producers have been very proactive regarding their agricultural practices and are not the major culprit behind the state’s water quality problems.

Wulfekuhle says his group is continuing to work with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and following state and federal environmental rules.
