Iowa Pork Producer Association officials are pleased with passage of state legislation to limit nuisance livestock lawsuits. IPPA State Policy Director Tyler Bettin says they worked closely with other state ag groups and lawmakers to get both the house and senate measures over the finish line.
He says the bill calls for damages to be capped.
Bettin says the measure was needed due to recent nuisance litigation that had been filed against younger producers, before they even got units completed.
Under the legislation the lawsuit limits don’t apply to consistent offenders or farms that violate environmental regulations. The bill now heads to the Governor.
