Iowa Pork Producer Association members are opposing state legislation to put added costs on producers who add solar panels to their swine operations. IPPA Public Policy Director Drew Mogler says a measure to add those costs already passed the Senate and now is in the House.
He says the current way solar panels are handled on farms gives producers an opportunity to keep a close handle on their utility costs.
Mogler says their earlier attempt to stop the legislation in the Senate failed but they hope to have better luck in curtailing it in the House.
Mogler says they’ve been able to beat back other adverse regulatory measures that won’t likely be reconsidered because they’re now past the funnel deadline.
