Algona, Iowa pork producer Conley Nelson is the new chairman of the U.S. Meat Export Federation. In addition, he has worked for Smithfield Foods for 35 years and brings great experience to the position.

In this role, he wants to make sure all facets of the meat industry pull together to promote U.S. red meat to consumers abroad.

Nelson says there are several challenges ahead facing the meat industry, so it’s important all sectors of it work together for the common good.

Nelson was elected at the USMEF annual Strategic Planning Conference held in Long Beach, California. Joining him on the officer team is Chair-elect Cevin Jones of Eden, Idaho, a custom feedlot operator and the vice chair is Pat Binger of Wichita, Kansas, head of international sales for Cargill Protein Group and the secretary treasurer is Mark Swanson, CEO of Birko Corporation.
