Iowa Pork President Says Election Results Positive For Pork Producers

Iowa voters this week re-elected Republicans Joni Ernst to the U.S. Senate and chose Randy Feenstra to represent them in Congress. Iowa Pork Producers Association President Mike Paustian says his organization works with members of both parties on issues important to pork producers. He’s confident both Ernst and Feenstra understand agriculture and will be good to work with.

He’s also confident the Senator and Representative understand the importance of trade and how critical it is for the pork industry.

Paustian says one of their major challenges will be working with new leaders on both the Senate and House Agriculture Committees as former House Ag Chair Collin Peterson was defeated in Tuesday’s election while Senate Ag Leader Pat Roberts chose not to run.

Paustian says whether it’s trade or the writing of the next farm bill, Iowa Pork Producers members will be weighing in with them on what needs to be done.
