Iowa Pork President Says Border Inspectors Need To Be Properly Funded

At their recent legislative conference held virtually pork producers across the country expressed concern with the need to fund user fees to keep border inspectors on the job. Iowa Pork Producers Association President Mike Paustian says the user fee concern is heightened by foreign animal disease concerns especially with the recent spreading of African Swine Fever and trying to keep it out of the U.S.

He says their recent concern regarding foreign animal diseases rose when ASF showed up in Germany.

Paustian says many of he and his fellow Iowa pork producers have been encouraged by packing plants ramping back up to capacity. He says many producers are now current with their marketings.

Paustian says they continue to monitor packing plants to make sure product is flowing and that producers are staying current going forward.
