Iowa Pork Producers Association leaders are monitoring the lawsuit filed this week in federal court by the ACLU and other groups against Iowa’s Ag Gag Law. Iowa Pork Producer’s Attorney Eldon McAfee says while free speech rights need to be protected so do the rights of business owners.

He says five years ago when state lawmakers came up with the Iowa Ag Gag law legislation they were careful to consider what the impacts of the law might be.

McAfee says when the state legislation was drafted, those putting it together followed both the state and U.S. constitutions.

McAfee says it’ll be up to the federal court to determine whether or not Iowa lawmakers did comply with both the state and U.S constitutions.
