A report on health emergency preparedness finds Iowa reaching only four of the ten primary benchmarks. Albert Lang is chief spokesman for the Trust for America’s Health, which issued the “Ready or Not?” report. Lang says those ten key indicators cover a variety of topics that include protecting the public’s health from diseases, disasters and bioterrorism.
Lang says Iowa has several areas in which it could improve, like putting paid sick leave into state law or joining the U.S. Climate Alliance to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Iowa nailing only four of the ten categories puts the state in the middle of the national pack. In total, 25 states scored a five or lower. Alaska was worst with two, while Massachusetts and Rhode Island scored the highest at nine out of ten. See the full report at: www.healthyamericans.org
