Iowa Legislature Reaches First Funnel Deadline

Iowa State lawmakers have reached the first funnel deadline for the 2021 session where bills must be out of committee or subcommittee or they’re dead for the year. That doesn’t include appropriations or ways and means bills. Iowa Pork Producers Association’s Public Policy Director Drew Mogler says the session is going well and they’re pleased the farm moratorium bill was defeated.

He says they’re backing a measure that just cleared the Iowa House that provides protections to livestock and those who transport those animals.

Mogler says they’re in favor another piece of legislation that would help provide more smaller meat processors.

Mogler says while they had to play defense against the moratorium bill, most of the legislation they’ve seen has been positive for agriculture.
