Iowa House Transportation Chair, Representative Josh Byrnes of Osage says there’s still time to come up with funding for needed infrastructure repairs and upkeep. He says his legislation that would put a tax on wholesalers and actually lower the fuel tax would get that job done. He says he’s making progress on educating fellow lawmakers about it and picking up support.

Brynes says if his hybrid legislation had been passed in 1989, the last time the fuel tax was raised, they’d have had more than enough money for roads and bridges.

He says there’s more backing for his legislation to lower the gas tax and raise the tax on wholesalers than his earlier proposal to just raise the gas tax.
