The next election isn’t until 2018, but Iowa has its first “official” candidate for governor.
That’s 52-year-old Rich Leopold, a Democrat from Huxley. He announced his candidacy this morning (Wednesday) with a Facebook live broadcast. Leopold served as director of the Iowa Department of Natural Resources during Chet Culver’s term as governor and has worked as a field conservationist at various levels of government.
Leopold says he’s not “into pointing fingers,” but his core message is that Iowa “needs an outsider” as governor.
Leopold says Iowans want “good paying jobs that can’t be outsourced,” affordable college tuition and population growth in rural Iowa.
