The group opposing the Rock Island Clean Wind project is still working to get Iowa lawmakers to pass legislation limiting eminent domain. Carolyn Sheridan, Director of the Preservation of Rural Iowa Alliance says the Senate measure has passed out of committee and they’re still working to get the companion measure out of a House committee. She says as the session is nearing an end, they’re making a push to get this bill over the finish line.
Sheridan says the legislation they’re supporting if passed will have long term impacts on more than just wind energy projects.
Sheridan says the key part of the legislation is a component that requires companies wanting to use eminent domain obtain at least 75 volunteer easements from landowners.
Iowa lawmakers are trying to come to agreement on a budget so they can adjourn the 2015 session.
