The 37th annual Iowa Governor’s Charity Steer Show raised $284,000 for the Ronald McDonald House of Iowa. Iowa Lt. Governor Adam Gregg won the show with his steer owned by Makia Smith of Charter Oak. Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds says it is a great even for a great charity.
Iowa Beef Industry Council Chair Janine Moore says they’re proud to have started to show and for the more than $3.5 million that has been raised since 1983. She also says it’s a way to educate consumers about the cattle industry and the beef they feed their families every day.
Moore says traditionally twenty-five celebrities show steers donated by various sponsors and owned by 4-H and FFA youth. They are auctioned to raise the money for the Ronald McDonald House charities.
People’s Choice Award went to former State Representative Brian Moore and Showmanship was won by Janine Stevenson with the Seeds of Hope Foundation.
