The 34th Annual Iowa Governor’s Charity Steer Show took place on Saturday at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines. The winning steer was shown by Dr. Steven Leath, President of Iowa State University and owned by Josh Darbyshire of Morning Sun.

The event is organized by the Iowa Beef Industry Council. Chair Scott Heater says over the last 33 years they have raised over $ 2.7 million for the Ronald McDonald Houses of Iowa, so it’s a great promotion for the industry and a great charity.

Heater says the show was started by Governor Terry Branstad and he had a great list of celebrities, sponsors and steers participate in the show.

He says the event has become quite competitive and features some of the best cattle in the state and country.

The winning steer sold for $ 18, 500. The showmanship winner was David Harris, Athletic Director at UNI and the People’s Choice was won by Jim Kellar, Welcome Home Memorial President.
