Iowa’s Governor, State Ag Secretary and Representatives of 11 of the state’s agricultural groups are asking President Trump and U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer to resolve the trade dispute with China. Iowa Soybean Association President Bill Shipley says the trade war caused by the tariffs must be resolved and soon.

He says a just released report shows Iowa being hit the hardest by the tariffs and trade retaliation. Shipley also says one third of the state’s $5 billion soybean crop is exported to China and farmers can’t afford to lose that market.

Shipley says it’s taken a long time to build the Chinese market and he says both the U.S. and China need to keep that market open.

In their letter the Iowa group said the state’s citizens and economy depend on having a quick resolution to the trade dispute.
