The second portion of the Trump administration’s Market Facilitation Payments are going out to producers prior to thanksgiving. The MFP for 2019 is providing $14.5 billion in direct payments to producers with the second tranche or portion being about $7.8 billion. Iowa Farmers Union President Aaron Lehman says the payments are badly needed by farmers suffering from the trade war impacts.

He says some tweaks need to be made to the Market Facilitation Program so the funds go out to those who need it the most.

Lehman would like to see the USDA target the MFP and also include livestock producers with those funds.

MFP sign up at USDA Farm Service Agency Offices runs through December 6, 2019.
