Wednesday on a voice vote, House members voted to send their Farm Bill to the conference committee with the Senate. The vote was 392 in favor and 20 against. The measure is HR2 and is titled the Agriculture Improvement Act of 2018. Iowa Farmers Union President Aaron Lehman is pleased they’re moving ahead to conference and are hoping they get a farm bill passed before the current one expires.

He says it’s positive the House has proceeded forward as the conference committee has their work cut out for them in order to get a measure passed before the end of September.

Lehman is hoping the conferees include Senator Grassley’s payment limitation actively engaged provision in the final package.

House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi has named democrats to serve on the conference committee including 10 agriculture committee members. Minnnesota Congressmen Collin Peterson and Tim Walz were among those chosen. The Republicans have yet to name their conferees.
