Thursday, Sam Clovis who had been nominated as USDA Undersecretary for research, education and economics withdrew his nomination. Iowa Farmers Union President Aaron Lehman is pleased with the decision. He says the person in that job needs to be a scientist.
Clovis was also criticized for his comments on climate change. Lehman says the next nominee must understand science and be able to help farmers and ranchers deal with climate change.
Lehman says farmers and ranchers need to have all the USDA posts filled, so they can assist farmers who are facing tough economic challenges.
Clovis had come under scrutiny for not having a science background and most recently was connected to the Russian investigation.
