The deadline for producers to apply for the next round of Coronavirus Food Assistance Payments is September 11 at County Farm Service Agency offices. Iowa Farmers Union President Aaron Lehman says it’s critical farmers and ranchers sign up for the aid. He says Iowa’s producers have been impacted not only by the pandemic and several years of low commodity prices but also by the recent Derecho storm.

He says farmers and ranchers have been under a lot of mental pressure as well as financial stress due to the pandemic, the storm and low prices.

Lehman says producers can’t expect to get federal aid to solve all their problems but having some type of assistance can help give them hope going forward.

Anyone needing help with the CFAP assistance process can go on line to farmers.gov.cfap or can call 1—877—508-8364 and speak directly with a USDA employee who can offer general help.
