One of the Iowa Farmers Union’s priorities for the next farm bill is having an adequate safety net preserved as well as a strong risk management program. That’ll be part of the discussion at three of their farm bill meetings set for next week in Decorah, Washington and Orient. Farmers Union President Aaron Lehman says producers are very concerned about the safety net.
He says another area of the farm bill that needs to be strengthened is conservation which will also be addressed at their meetings.
Lehman says producers are also worried about possible spending cuts that could affect farm bill programs.
Meetings are set for August 23 at one p.m. in Decorah, August 24 at 10 am in Washington and August 25 at 10 a.m. in Orient.
