Iowa Farmers And Ethanol Officials Continue To Push EPA Head On RFS Issues

Interim Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Andrew Wheeler spoke with farmers and ethanol leaders while in Iowa this week. While he listened to their concerns and promised to give them more certainty on issues regarding the RFS, he didn’t give them many details. Iowa Renewable Fuels Association Executive Director Monte Shaw says they told Wheeler he needs to get year round use of E15 approved despite any possible legal pressures from the oil industry.

He says the EPA chief needs to follow the President’s commitment and not be tied into some type of deal to satisfy oil interests.

Shaw says the lack of follow through on curtailing the RFS waivers and getting E15 year round use approved are part of the mounting frustrations producers are dealing with. He says the Trump administration must deal with these issues before voters go to the polls in November.

Shaw says his group’s members will continue talking with the EPA, USDA, the White House and Congress about the issue.
