House Ways and Means Chairman Paul Ryan wants to move ahead with Trade Promotion Authority legislation. The measure gives the President authority to negotiate trade agreements with just an up or down vote by Congress. Iowa Farm Bureau President Craig Hill says passage of that is a key to advancing important agreements like the Trans Pacific and Trans Atlantic trade deals.
While critics of TPA have said it doesn’t allow transparency on trade agreements, Hill says it actually does.
Congressman Ryan says it’s important for President Obama to weigh in on the debate and convince members of his own party to support TPA.
