This week, EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy spoke at a joint House Senate hearing promising clarification of her agency’s proposed Waters of the U.S. rule.
Iowa Farm Bureau President Craig Hill says there are still several problems with the proposal and nothing has changed in that his group thinks EPA is attempting to have jurisdiction over all waters in the country. He says the proposed rule needs to be thrown out.
Hill says when EPA came up with their proposal they were bypassing Congress, the nation’s highest court and grabbing regulatory power.
EPA has received over 800,000 comments on their proposal and Hill says several of those came from Iowa. He says however ag’s representation in those comments are in the minority.
He says it’s likely following their review EPA will publish their rule and move forward. The agency’s goal is to have something out this spring.
