Despite significant differences between the House and Senate versions, One Iowa Farm Group leader believes the conferees will be able to come together to pass a new farm bill before the present one expires the end of September. Iowa Farm Bureau President Craig Hill says agriculture needs the certainty a new farm bill will provide.
He’s hopeful conferees will overcome their differences on SNAP requirements and get the new legislation passed.
Hill says the most important component of the farm bill is a solid crop insurance program and is what most farmers want in the legislation.
Hill says Midwest agriculture interests are well represented on the farm bill conference committee with Senator Joni Ernst of Iowa and Senators John Hoeven and Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota both on the panel.
