Iowa Environmental Reacts to States Gaining Clean Water Permit Authority

The move this week by the Trump Administration to give state’s more authority to regulate clean water permits is drawing the concern of an Iowa Environmental group. Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement State Policy Director Adam Mason says while they normally back local control, they are concerned with lack of environmental control by Iowa state agencies.

He says they’re concerned with this latest move to roll back needed federal environmental rules.

Mason says there also needs to be stricter enforcement of environmental regulations, which isn’t currently happening.

Plus, he says there needs to be more mandatory environmental rules rather than a voluntary approach to protect Iowa’s water. He says it will probably take legislation at the state level to address it.
