The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship has been appointed to act as receiver of Heartland Crush LLC of Marengo. Ag Department Spokesman Dustin Vandehoef says that’s because they were an unlicensed grain dealer and any farmer losses will not be covered by the Iowa Grain Indemnity Fund.
He says anyone who sold grain to the company and was not paid may file claims with the Iowa Department of Agriculture until February 7, 2019.
Vandehoef says the Heartland Crush case is different than most elevators who are facing financial pressures due to a downward ag economy.
Vandehoef says the Ag Department will be marketing the grain Heartland has in storage and try to get the farmers paid the best they can.
