A pair of bills important for the dairy industry have received final approval in the Iowa Legislature. Iowa State Dairy Association Executive Director Mitch Schulte says measures were passed including a milk hauling bill and HF 522, a measure which allows dairies to put in anaerobic digesters. He says that will help producers improve their sustainability and environmental footprint as well as benefit them economically.

He says the anaerobic digester bill will also help dairy producers in reaching their goal of becoming carbon neutral.

Schulte says the milk hauling legislation will let producers truck larger loads on interstate highways starting in January of 2022.

Schulte says by being able to ship milk on the interstate it’ll create a much safer environment by getting those vehicles off of town roads and congested areas.
