The Iowa Senate could vote as early as next week on a measure to raise the state gas tax ten cents a gallon. The money would be used for infrastructure repair and upkeep. Iowa Pork Producers President Dave Struthers says there is a definite need for the gas tax hike as road and bridge upkeep must be funded.
Struthers says much of the infrastructure money is needed by counties which are facing crumbling roads and bridges.
Struthers says road and bridge upkeep is important for everyone, not just agriculture but it definitely is an economic development issue and important to farmers and ranchers who need to get their goods to market.
