Iowa Corn Growers Association members met with legislators last week at the state capital in Des Moines. President Mark Recker says as part of their lobby day they spoke with lawmakers about ethanol and taxes, plus shared their appreciation for passage of legislation to improve water quality and conservation.

He says they asked lawmakers to continue backing cost share funding for the Renewable Fuels Infrastructure Program.

Recker says they’re also hoping legislators will support coupling of the Section 179 tax deduction for farm equipment.

Recker says Section 179 expensing is a key tool for farmers and small businesses. It allows them to deduct the full purchase price of qualifying equipment during the tax year.
